Inventory-based listing management is not currently supported by this tool

Sometimes you might receive the following error message when trying to update the price and quantity of the listings previously listed on eBay by the Shopify eBay native app:

Inventory-based listing management is not currently supported by this tool. Please refer to the tool used to create this listing.

This specific message relates to the cases when you use Salestio to connect your Shopify products to existing eBay listings. It appears not for all cases like this but when you are trying to update eBay listings published with the help of a very specific eBay API version. This API is used by the Shopify eBay channel. Some other apps might also use this API. However, most Shopify apps for eBay integration actually use the correct API to publish products on eBay.

Going back to the question of why this is actually the issue, it is important to mention that this API version supports limited eBay functionality. Sellers might miss the common features they used to have on eBay, for example, the ability to add the "Best Offer" to listings.

What's more, you as a seller might have difficulties updating such listings even directly on eBay.

There are two ways to resolve the issue.

Enabling Inventory API

Go to your eBay profile, check the "Use Inventory Api" option and save the changes. Selling Lists using this profile will switch to the limited Inventory API.

Relisting the items

For more control over the old listings, delete them and list again using Salestio, some other tool, or directly in eBay UI.
